Adaptive reuse of a Category A listed urban parish church

I served as Lead Designer and Conservation Architect for Muckle Kirk (Peterhead Old Parish Church, 1804–06, Alexander Laing), overseeing its adaptive reuse into a Martial Arts Centre and Community Hub. Prepared Heritage Statement and Conservation Assessment documented the architectural, historic, and social significance of this Category A listed landmark within Peterhead’s Outstanding Conservation Area. Conservation-led design principles guided interventions that retained the primary plan form, U-shaped gallery, Roman Doric columns, and interior detailing, allowing reversible adaptations for new community uses.

The project addressed its inclusion on the Buildings at Risk Register and provided a sustainable model for continued public access and preservation of historic fabric.
