Heritage statement and conservation advice for a Category A listed New Town townhouse

Heritage Consultant preparing Heritage Statement to support planning and listed building consent for change of use and sensitive internal/external alterations. Research included archival and cartographic analysis, and assessment of architectural, historic, social, archaeological, and townscape significance. Detailed conservation advice guided retention, repair, and reinstatement of historic fabric, including principal façade, plan form, stair hall, plasterwork, and joinery. The design respected the building’s contribution to Albany Street terrace and Edinburgh’s New Town townscape while allowing carefully considered adaptation of less significant areas.

The approach ensured minimal intervention, sustainable adaptation, and long-term conservation.
